Setting Trends Since 1958
North Hill Centre has the distinction of being Calgary's first shopping mall. Constructed in 1958, North Hill Shopping Centre, as it was known then, was designed as a strip centre with a freestanding Simpson-Sears department store at the east end. It was first developed with an open sided covered canopy, which connected the smaller stores with the shopping centre anchors.

Addition and Expansion

In 1973, an addition and expansion to North Hill Mall created an enclosed mall. This renovation was built around existing stores and resulted in numerous columns running down the central corridor of the mall with different ceiling heights and inconsistent storefront design.

In 2000, North Hill Centre underwent a major renovation. Safeway was relocated to anchor the west end of the mall and Sears remained in its original location to anchor the east end of the North Hill Centre. The interior columns were removed, the mall ceiling was raised to a consistent height and a wider range of shops and services were added.
Today, North Hill Centre boasts more than 100 Shops and Services in the shopping centre, Professional offices on the 2nd level, free standing medical facilities and a condominium complex.
